Long Island Update

Newsday has an article about the housing market on Long Island. Long Island is a lot like the Jersey Shore. It has beaches, many residents commute to NYC etc. so I think it’s a good proxy for our own market.

“Say one last farewell to the housing boom.

In the clearest evidence to date of a housing market shift, the latest Long Island data showed Nassau County's median home price rose only 4.4 percent from March 2005 to March 2006 - the smallest annual price gain since May 1998.

Nassau's median home price stood at $470,000, the same level it was in June 2005, according to the Long Island Multiple Listing Service. Suffolk County reported a 6.2 percent yearly jump, to $396,800. Queens is still far stronger, with a median price of $475,000, a 13.1 percent gain from March 2005.”

Don't sell yourselves short. The Jersey Shore is a lot nicer than the Island.

The Hamptons for one have one of the highest breast cancer rates in the world -- probably due to radiation from Brookhaben National Labs in the ground water and the Millstone reactor blowing across the sound.

The traffic on the Island is worse than NJ.

Quite an agenda about breast cancer rates on LI you've got there - as I have seen this "comment" before on the other real estate blogs. I seriously doubt either Brookhaven or any other reactor spews enough radioactivity to cause higher than normal cancer rates.

My NYC co-workers from LI are forever telling me how sucky NJ is - you know, the pollution, the chemicals, people with cancer, glowing in the dark, etc.

SO what do I say to them? I tell them they're right, NJ is horrible, just horrible. People are all suffering and life expectancy is 57. Plus it smells. Yeah, and there are garbage dumps everywhere.

But despite my efforts, LI-ers are moving here in droves. :(

well, parts of l.i. are pretty but hey, it can be so pretentious. long island is like the upper-east side on the beach! who needs that. i'll take the jersey shore any day over l.i. except for some places like spring lake, the jersey shore is a lot less prententious. everyone can have fun at the jersey shore not just nyc movers and shakers.

I have been following a site now for almost 2 years and I have found it to be both reliable and profitable. They post daily and their stock trades have been beating
the indexes easily.

Take a look at Wallstreetwinnersonline.com
