Bring Back The Tides

The writer in this article summarizes nicely how the Shore has changed recently. It seems that this area is becoming more unaffordable each year for a lot of people. It seems like it would be virtually impossible for a family of three or four to buy a house in almost any Monmouth County town if they didn’t earn at least $150k per year. The writer doesn’t say though, and he probably does not recognize it, that the problem of being unable to afford a house is pretty widespread along the coasts of this country and is not limited to the Jersey Shore.

“It seems like not a week goes by that I don't see another perfectly good house being razed to make way for yet another oversized monstrosity. In the Belmar-Lake Como area where I live, it is not unusual these days to see a new, 3 1/2-story bland, characterless dwelling sitting just a few feet away from a one- or two- story, two- or three-bedroom home. How the owner of the smaller house is expected to pay his or her ever-increasing property taxes is an easily answered question. They're not. It's all part of a plan.”
